Umbilical cable assembly's or multicore cable harness consist of any number of cables and other services, including Ultrasonics, motors, encoders, pneumatic, cameras and lighting.
The cable assembly can vary in length and construction, but usually will form a bundle that is then covered in a type of expandable sleeving, heatshrink or a combination of both.
Connectors multi pin or coaxial of crimp or solder type and fittings for various services are fitted to either end.
Depending on the Mechanical Assembly device or Manipulator configuration it can also be interfaced via a PCB assembly contained in a junction box.
A majority of these systems are used in a harsh enviroment so cable assemblies and the type of material used is very important, so any PCB assembly sub-contractors or Cable assembly sub-contractors procurment and QA systems need to be vetted.
